The Gambino Family has established a special scholarship fund in memory of Gabriella who passed away on June 8, 2003. There will be a special scholarship to be awarded to one graduating student of OLH who will enter McGann-Mercy High School in freshman year. This partial financial stipend (a one time grant of $1000) will be paid directly to the high school toward the tuition payment of the recipient.
Patrick Terry '04 was the first recipient of this award and Mary Barrie was the designee in 2005, with Karli Nunez and Kerry Glynn accepting the awards in 2006 , Jarred Robins and Caroline Ray in 2007 and Mairead Glynn and Shannon Nunez in 2008 and Josie Tzitzimititla in 2009.

THE SPECIAL PROJECTS to honor and remember our first grader, Gabriella Gambino:
-A beautiful Japanese weeping cherry tree was donated and planted at the apex of the north garden by the first grade parents
-The creation of “Gaby’s Garden” at the front and side of St. Joseph’s Hall. This was dedicated on October 6.This will be a flowering perennial garden that will be at its best each spring and summer!
-A specially inscribed rock was added to the north gardens bearing a poem about Gaby written by Reading Teacher Carol Cirigliano/ The rock is a gift of her class, the class of 2010.
-A special library corner at OLH in Gaby’s name has been initiated by the staff of Southampton Elementary School and added to by OLH families
-A scholarship fund has been initiated in Gaby’s name. This will provide a partial scholarship of $1000  (one recipient each year) for a graduating eighth grader who will be moving on to a Catholic high school.
-A Run to Remember, a 5K run was initiated in 2005 and held for the first time on June 12, 2005 and again in June 2006, 2007 and 2008 . Over five hundred runners each year have helped to raise over $30,000 for the Gaby Fund at OLH.
The sixth annual Run to Remember , in memory of Gabriella Gambino, class of 2010, will be run in June 2010.

 BUILDING IMPROVEMENTS
It is easy to see some of the things that have been done to beautify our school and to make the program flow. During the course of the past four years, several modifications were done to insure the safety and comfort of the school. The School Board has suggested that we let you know what was done. The funds for this work came from our operating account and Future Fund, as well as donations:

since summer 2007
replacement of carpet in grades 1,2,3 and 6,8
replacement of kitchen freezer
replacement of lunch tables and auditorium chairs
major repairs to auditorium roof
painting of auditorium walls and ceiling
replacement of kindergarten windows
total painting of interior of kindergarten
installation of a new Smartboard in grades 8,7,6,4,3
renovation of primary Math/Science center
resurfacing of cabinets and painting of walls in kitchen
installation of two white boards
replacement of school boiler
redesign of Our Lady's Garden at side of auditorium
additional outdoor lighting at front of building
refurbishment of the exterior deck on kindergarten
refurbishment of the playground apparatus
addition of a Mobile Presentation System
upgrade of computer lab student stations
addition of new volleyball and track equipment
addition of a Smartboard to the Science Room and Conference Room
replacement of all classroom shades
replacement of lower level fire door
repainting and repair to boiler room
recarpeting of grade 5 and 7 classrooms
installation of Smartboards in grades 1,2 and 5
acquisition of machoine to copy DVD/CDs
purchase of adjacent house/ removal of same
re-carpeting and painting of offices
addition of shop facility

The cost of improvements to the building since 2004 was close to $1,865,000 total. Keeping the building up to date, up to code and in top operating condition is a priority.

As funds have become available ,we are hoping to :
replace the front entrance doors,
re-insulate the windows,
upgrade the playgrounds at both campuses,
add a dimmer board to the stage lighting
re-glaze the auditorium and second floor walls

If anyone knows of any building grants that may become available, we would be grateful for the information. Any outside donations or gifts are greatly appreciated.
