SEPTEMBER ACTIVITIES
**** Each month the kindergarten class will be focusing on a different children's author. September's featured author is ROBERT McCLOSKY. We will be studying about Robert's life and we will be reading and discussing books in his collection. We will also be recreating his beautiful art work. Please look for the following books in the bookstore, the library, or in the Scholastic Book Club flyers that are sent home every few weeks in your child's folder. This is a good way to share these stories at home with your child for reinforcement: MAKE WAY FOR DUCKLINGS, ONE MORNING IN MAINE, LENTIL, BLUEBERRIES FOR SAL, and A TIME OF WONDER.
*** Our class will be studying about sea life and incorporating this study into all subject areas. If your child has any books, puzzles, CD's, DVD's,or toys at home that involve life under the sea, please encourage them to bring them to school to share with the class.
*** We will be learning the rules of the classroom and the school and adjusting to a full day of learning activities. We will also be meeting many new friends.
*** We will be studying the letters C,O,and G this month. We will be reading stories about clowns, cats, oxen, otters, goats, and gardens.
*** In Math lessons, we will be learning about positions, patterns, and classification. Here are some useful suggestions for helping to prepare your child at home:
- sort household items such as socks or silverware
- use position words while playing "I Spy"
- have your child make and describe patterns using coins
*** In Religion lessons, we will be studying about ourselves, how we are special and made by God.
